Caroline Van der Straeten
Digital paintings and animated films in which reality and imagination continually flow into one another.

About the work
Caroline Van der Straeten (born 1962, Wetteren) creates digital paintings and animated films in which reality and imagination continually flow into one another.
Her animations begin with photographs of her own paintings, which she digitally reworks and transforms. The canvas prints are stills from these moving images: snapshots of a world that feels both familiar and unsettling.
Colour, time, space, music, sound and silence determine the rhythm of her work. She draws inspiration from art history, literature, nature, evolution and music.
The result invites you to step into her universe of imagination, transformation and dreams.
